Weekly Print Calendar Giveaway!

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

In preparation for The Weekly Print to begin in January, I printed up a small batch of these shop calendars. Two colors, 4.75″ by 12″, and each one includes all 12 months of 2009! The blue dot in her hair is where I will punch a hole so it can be hung from any nail, hook, or tack you may already conveniently have in your wall.

While supplies last, these will be given away with any new print purchase or subscription.

Oh yeah, and I made a time lapse video of me printing these, mostly just as an excuse to use “Yakety Sax.”

What To Expect From The Weekly Print

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

I figure it is probably necessary to write a post about some of the boring technical details in regards to what I plan to create over the course of the next 52 weeks, so this should sum it up:

As stated in earlier posts, I plan on creating at least 50, two or three color, screenprinted, art prints throughout 2009. A new print will be posted roughly once a week. A majority of the prints will be 8″ by 12″, and of either vertical or horizontal layout. Throughout the year, I also plan to make a few 12″ by 18″ prints as well, but probably no more than 10 of the 50 will be of this size. The smaller prints will be available for $15 and will be shipped flat. The larger prints will be $20 and will ship rolled in a heavy cardboard tube.

Subscriptions are available if you wish to purchase multiple prints at a discounted price. All subscriptions will start with the most recent print (check the sidebar on the front page or store). For example, if you were to purchase a one-month subscription (4 prints), you would receive the most recent print and then the next three that I print. If you were to purchase a three-month subscription (12 prints), you would receive the most recent print, and then the next 11; and so on.

In terms of content, if you are unfamiliar with my previous work, please read my initial post for a small sample. I’m a huge fan of cartoony illustration and handrawn lettering, so at the very simplest, I can promise that most, if not all, of the prints will be made of one or both of those elements. I like to feel there is a strong element of humor in my work, and I do not plan on changing that either.

If you have any other questions, please email me at prints@theweeklyprint.com

Print Table Cleanup!

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I’m gearing up for The Weekly Print to start in January, so I thought I’d give my printing table a good scrub down. Sure, it’s lost some of its character, but getting it back to nearly squeaky clean means I can just mess it all up again!

This is basically the area in which I do all my printing. It’s a huge, 1980’s architect’s drafting table that a friend found on Craigslist a few years ago. An architecture firm was unloading them cheaply because apparently architects don’t draft anymore, just compute; we both bought one. I’ll do a more in depth post on my full setup soon, but below the table I have storage room enough for my exposure unit and a large cardboard box in which I can dry my freshly emulsion-coated screens in a dark environment. Ink and squeegees are stored in a closet just out of frame. That’s the setup that’s going to get me through this Weekly Print challenge, just like it has for the least few years.

Here’s just the side of the table that I print on. All of that collected imagery is a combination of spray tack, full-bleed prints, and me forgetting to put paper down before pulling a print.

If you’re coming to the site for the first time, please make sure and read the post below this, it explains everything.

Welcome to the Weekly Print!

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

A selection of my 2-3 color screenprints from 2008, as a sampler for those of you who may not know my work very well.

Well howdy, and welcome to The Weekly Print. I assume most of you reading this are coming to the site for the first time, so I may as well explain myself. My name is BT Livermore, and I’m an illustrator, comic artist, and printmaker from Portland, Oregon. I decided to give myself the challenge of creating at least 50 screenprinted art prints in 2009, or roughly one per week, hence the name of the site.

This site will not only be the visual record of my personal challenge, but I hope an interesting glimpse into the life of a DIY screenprinter as well. Besides finished prints, I plan on filling this site with info about my printing process and home setup and am willing to answer any questions you may have regarding such things.

The prints will be for sale individually, but I am also offering subscriptions for those of you interested in supporting the site and receiving a ton of prints along the way. Until I finish the first print in early January, a full year subscription is only $480 (US); payable all at once, or in 12 monthly installments of $40. After the first print is posted, the prices will go up. There are shorter-term subscriptions available as well.

If you have any questions about the subscriptions, the site, or me, feel free to contact me. I will be posting more specific information about my plans for the site and what you can expect in terms of the prints in the next week or so, and I will be posting things frequently from here on out.

Thanks for reading all of this, other posts will probably be much shorter.
